Tributes flow for firefighter killed in bushfire on a remote road in south east Queensland

One woman is dead and another remains critically hurt following a bushfire in an 우리카지노area of southern Queensland.

The fire is a large-scale blaze that has been burning for more than three weeks, after a fire warning was issued on Sunday afternoon.

Crews from the Southern Rural Fire Protection Authority were working with Queensland Fire Services to contain the blaze.

Southern Rural Fire Protection Authority Queensland director Dave Hall says firefighters from three areas — Curnow Creek, Lismore and Cairns — were already in the area.

Firefighters from around a dozen counties were assisting with the response to the fire.

“The conditions were extremely dangerous, heavy with smoke and fire hazards,” he said.

Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesman Steve Darr said firefighters from the Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the RSPCA and the Queensland Fire Brigade were involved in the firefighting effort.

The Queensland Fire Brigade’s deputy director, Tim MacDee, says that emergency crews with their own equipment helped extinguish the fire.

Emergency crews work at the site of a bushfire on the south-east corner of the state on September 12, 2017.

“The fire was extremely difficult to come to and the only people that were working on the scene were in and out of the fire area so there were a lot of volunteers who were quite heavily involved in extinguishing the fire in that particular area,” Mr Darr said.

“The fire has now died down but the ongoing conditions means there’s a chance of this fire spreading to other areas.”

Mr Darr says it remains the largest fire to cause substantial damage in Queensland.
