Nurse retention rates a worry says federation chair Gillian Triggs

NSW Health has spent more than $12 million on nurses in 2013-14 but they have been on the job 24/7 and have been working longer than they would like, says NSW Health’s chief executive.

Dr Gillian Triggs warned nurses, dentists, dentists’ groups and others against thinking nurses didn’t have to be as flexible as other staff because they were paid $26,000 a year for work that many considered boring.

And despite being the highest paid in the private sector, 바카라사이트the average worker had to work 17 hours per week to meet minimum living costs.

“Nurses work longer and harder to meet the healthcare sector’s demands than any other profession – and while some might say that’s because of the pressures, most believe nurses work harder because they are motivated and want t우리카지노o go out and do something extra, whether it’s with a child or their child,” Dr Triggs said.

“It’s hard work as well – nurses have to perform as well as other service workers and they must be committed, disciplined and dedicated. It’s difficult because a large part of that work is being done in front of people.”

Dr Triggs said the NSW government was trying to introduce the National Occupational Outlook and Working Conditions to tackle nurse turnover and also tackle stress and poor performance.

“The goal of both those initiatives is to raise people up to the competencies they should have and to make sure nurses get a good wage, that they have good work-life balance, that they are well educated,” Dr Triggs said.

“That’s why every year we’re asking organisations whether they’re going to hire more nu더킹카지노rses because it’s all about what nurses are best at.

“It’s also about the way we respond to nurses who need to go to work late because they’re really tired.”

Ms Triggs is also worried about the health systems in NSW and said they need to get nurses in more places to reduce their stress levels, and to improve work-life balance.

“[It’s] what we’ve done in the past, why we’ve had to work harder at things, why we’re in the process of doing those things,” Ms Triggs said.

“The nurses are going to face greater challenges, particularly as we build up some of these new hospital hospitals which will be much more patient and home based than what we’re used to in the state.”
